I am from northern Alabama, where I spent the majority of my formative years on a farm in the rural Cullman County. The best way that I describe myself is “I’m a handyman who also knows some organic chemistry”. I enjoy memes which often find their way into my lectures, injecting humor and relatability into the learning experience. In my leisure moments, I'm an avid gamer and some of my recent favorites include Drudge, Elden Ring, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Darkest Dungeon 2, and Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Overview

I am a trained organic chemist with proficiency in synthesis, catalysis, natural product isolation, and instrumentation. My training also includes chromatography and other organic separation methods as well as characterization of organic compounds. Additionally, I am well-versed in operating various instruments, which include nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, mass spectrometry (MS), and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy instruments.

Since 2014, I have been responsible for managing instrumentation within the chemistry department at Mississippi State University. In this capacity, I play a crucial role in supporting the training of undergraduates, graduate students, and post-docs on these instruments. I also provide assistance with repairs and troubleshooting as needed, ensuring the instruments remain in optimal working condition.

Over the years, I have overseen the mass spectrometry and small instrument facilities in MSU's chemistry department. I have had the privilege of training a substantial number of students and instrumentation teaching assistants (TAs) throughout my career. I have extended this valuable training opportunity not only to our MSU community but also to students from neighboring institutions such as Jackson State University, the University of Mississippi, and the University of Southern Mississippi.
