I, Dr. Liza Bondurant am an associate professor in the Teacher Education and Leadership (TEAL) Department in the College of Education at Mississippi State University.

I am a mathematics teacher educator (MTE) who is passionate about creating a world where each and every learner knows, uses, and enjoys mathematics. My experiences growing up in a working-class family, teaching secondary math in urban and rural communities in upstate New York (2005-2013), working with prospective and current math teachers in the Mississippi Delta (2013-2023), and developing multiple, long-term partnerships with math educators in several states (2005-Present) have shaped my understanding of and outlook on working with teachers and youth. My research focuses on how pedagogies of practice (representations, decompositions, and approximations) can serve as vehicles for helping mathematics educators rehumanize mathematics teaching and learning.

I was a PI on two consecutive Department of Education Math Science Partnership grants (2013-2018) and have been a research participant and co-investigator on several NSF-funded projects (#1625784, #1726252, #1835409, #2032179, #2050099, #2054931, #2121364, #2141737, #2141730, #625713). I have numerous peer-reviewed publications, have written and edited K-20 mathematics curriculum materials, and have co-edited a book, entitled Promoting Equity in Approximations of Practice for Mathematics Teachers. I serve as a Department Editor for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12 (MTLT) journal. I am also on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Urban Mathematics Education (JUME). I have been recognized with awards, such as the College Teacher of the Year by the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM), and have served in various leadership roles, such as the President of the Mississippi Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (MAMTE).
