Biography
I, Dr. Liza Bondurant, am a professor in the Teacher Education and Leadership (TEAL) Department in the College of Education at Mississippi State University.
I am a mathematics teacher educator who is passionate about creating a world where each and every learner knows, uses, and enjoys mathematics. My experiences growing up in a working-class family, teaching secondary math in urban and rural communities in upstate New York (2005-2013), working with prospective and current math teachers in the Mississippi Delta (2013-2023), and developing multiple, long-term partnerships with math educators in several states (2005-Present) have shaped my understanding of and outlook on working with teachers and youth. My research focuses on how pedagogies of practice (representations, decompositions, and approximations) can serve as vehicles for helping mathematics educators rehumanize mathematics teaching and learning.

- Project Director of the Mississippi State University-AmeriCorps Tutoring Program funded by Volunteer Mississippi, the state commission of AmeriCorps, 2025-2027.
- co-Principal Investigator of the Mississippi STEM Education Alliance funded by the National Science Foundation, 2025-2030.
- Principal Investigator of Cultivating Rehumanized Embodied Approaches To Education (CREATE Math) funded by the Mathematical Association of America and the Tensor Foundation, 2025-2027.
I have numerous peer-reviewed publications, have written and edited K-16 mathematics curriculum materials, and have co-edited a book, entitled Promoting Equity in Approximations of Practice for Mathematics Teachers.
