Professional Overview & Teaching Philosophy

I am a lecturer of Spanish specializing in Distance Education, teaching Spanish levels I-IV online. I also serve as the Director of the MSU Summer Study Abroad Program in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, where I also teach a class on linguistic and cultural diversity in the Iberian Peninsula. As an online instructor, my guiding philosophy is to endeavor to constantly provide ever greater accessibility where it may not have been previously available or possible, and to open windows to other cultures, viewpoints, and ways of living to which students might not have had previous exposure.

My principal objectives and motivations as an academic, researcher, and educational professional are to amplify voices of marginalized/minoritized language communities, to actively contribute to the production and dissemination of research of these often under-examined sociolinguistic spaces, and to aid in the wider awareness of these communities beyond their immediate confines.
